Extended Code 39 — Barcode Format Guide & Generator

Extended Code 39 is a one-dimensional linear symbology in the Linear family. Code 39 extended to full 7-bit ASCII. Typical homes for these codes are shipping labels, warehouse racks, membership cards, work orders and any place a cheap, universally readable 1D mark does the job.

Generated live in your browser by the same encoder the studio uses — nothing is uploaded.

Data format

Enter the payload as plain text. The encoder enforces each symbology’s character set and length rules, and rejects out-of-spec input with a clear message instead of silently producing a bad symbol.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Decodes on any ordinary 1D scanner — no special reader or app needed.
  • Prints reliably with ordinary office printers on plain paper labels.

Limitations

  • Limited to a short payload — unsuitable for long strings.
  • No error correction — a scratched or badly printed symbol fails outright.
