About QrDeco

QrDeco is a free barcode and QR code generator built by a small independent team. Everything runs in your browser: the page and the barcode engine load once, and every symbol is drawn on your own device — the data you type never travels to a server.

What QrDeco is

The generator covers 87 symbologies: 1D codes such as Code 128, Code 39 and EAN-13; 2D codes such as QR, Micro QR, Data Matrix, Aztec and PDF417; plus GS1 DataBar, HIBC, postal and niche symbols. Matrix codes can be restyled — module shapes, finder eyes, colours, gradients and a logo overlay — and the output exports as SVG, PNG or PDF.

Batch mode generates one code per line and collects them into a ZIP, sequence mode numbers the rows automatically, and the print view lays codes out on a standard A4 sheet with cut marks. Everything is free, with no account, no sign-up and no watermark.

How the generator works

The whole tool is a static web page. The barcode engine runs inside the page after it loads, so encoding, rendering and exporting all happen on your device — and keep working if your connection drops.

That is also the privacy story: there is no server receiving your input, because there is nowhere for it to go. Preferences such as your language, theme and most recent configuration are kept in your browser's local storage and never sent anywhere.

The one deliberate exception is the share button: the resulting link carries a compact encoding of the current configuration in its hash, so the recipient sees the same symbol. The privacy page explains exactly what that involves.

Why it exists

Most online barcode tools put basic output behind an account, stamp a watermark on the result, or upload the data to a server the user cannot inspect. QrDeco is the opposite: a static page, open-source encoding maths, and output that belongs to you.

The barcode engine itself is open-source software distributed under the BSD-3-Clause license, and the full license notices are published on the license page. This project stands on that work.

Who is behind it

QrDeco is an independent project with no investors and no advertising. The pages are static files served from a CDN, so the running costs are small — and there is no business model that wants your data.

Requests, bug reports and format requests all go to the people who build the tool: [email protected].
